Join us, Houston Orienteering Club, at Stubblefield Recreation Area in the Sam Houston National Forest for a traditional point-to-point Orienteering competition. We welcome all ages and experience levels to join us in Orienteering, the “thinking sport” of navigating using a map and compass. 

When? January 31st, 2026

 

Registration Deadline: 
Wednesday, January 28th, 2026 at 8 PM registration closes and payment/waivers are due.  Please complete your registration well before the deadline if possible.
Competitors and Recreational/Map Hikers must preregister online to participate.  Maps are printed based on online registration numbers.

Type – Standard Point-To-Point Courses
Courses Available – White, Yellow, Orange, Brown, Green, Red
Course Time Limit – 3 hours
Map – 1:10,000, 2.5-meter contour interval

Terrain – Rolling, wooded terrain crossed by small streams.  The woods are mostly old growth with moderate amounts of undergrowth.  There is a sparse trail network.  The White and Yellow courses may follow streams and include following taped routes through the forest.  Taped routes will be shown on the map with pink dashed lines, and in the forest they will be marked with pink surveyor’s tape.

E-PUNCH

  • Competitors are required to use E-Punch and are eligible for medals.
  • Recreational/Map Hikers are NOT required to use E-Punch and are NOT eligible for medals
  • If you do not have an E-Punch (SI Card), HOC rentals may be available for $5

  • Photo ID required for E-punch rental, Replacement cost of E-Stick Rental is $40.
 
 

ENTRY FEES

  • Competitors – must use an e-punch for scoring.
    • $10 Competitor Entry (e-punch owner) or
    • $15 Competitor Entry with e-punch Rental
    • Each class is eligible for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place awards
  • Recreational Map Hikers
    • $5 Recreational Map Hiker Entry – NOT eligible for awards
 

REGISTRATION – Registration is closed right now

We use an online registration system for our entries

  • All Group leaders should register all of their participants (do not have parents register participants)
  • Leaders should arrange to pay for all of their participants

 

STEP #1:  REGISTEration  –  CLOSES AT 8 PM ON 28 January 2026

  • Select your club name from the drop-down list.  If you are not listed select “Add New” and type your club name.  Please keep it down below 20 characters if possible.  Use “HS” and “Int” if applicable.
  • “Save and Resume Later” on the bottom of this form will allow you to obtain a direct link to this registration form so that you can continue editing and make further changes later. Once your registration is finalized, submit the registration form, payment, and waivers. Contact us if you have any payment or waiver upload issues. 
  • Do not use all caps for the name field.  Use proper case.

STEP #2:  PAYMENT

  • Payment/Refund Policy: Please read
  • Pay online with Credit Card or PayPal account at the end of registration.
  • If you fail to pay during registration, another way to pay is listed here.
  • Checks must be received by 1/28/2026. Normal mailing postmarked by 1/16/2026 from the Houston area may get to the destination by 1/28/2026.  It is on the check sender to get payment completed by the deadline.

  • No payments will be accepted at the event.

 

STEP #3:  WAIVER

Every participant must SUBMIT a completed waiver prior to competing.  If the participant is under 18, the waiver must be signed by their parent or legal guardian. 

  • Have all waivers completed and signed
  • Scan all waivers into a single PDF
  • Upload either during registration or on our waiver upload form. 
  • Or you can send the waivers to contacthoc.orienteeringusa.org
